The Zone 2 Catholic Women’s Organisation (C.W.O.) of St Joseph’s Parish (UNIZIK Temporary Site), Awka, Anambra State, has defeated three other zones to lift the Champions Trophy for the 2019 Annual Harvest & Bazaar of the parish.
The result as announced by the president of the parish C.W.O., Mrs Hariette Okoye, at the parish last Sunday, February 9, kept the Zone 2 of the organisation on top, having realized and remitted the highest amount of money from the bazaar.
Presenting the trophy to the winner, the parish president, Mrs Okoye, extolled the Zone 2 and her leader, Lady Augustina Okeyika, for what she described as the doggedness, commitment, hard work and sacrifice on the part of the executive and members which earned them the win.
The winning zone and the runners-up were also appreciated with cash gifts as announced by the president.
Earlier in his homily, the parish vicar, Rev Fr Kingsley Ibe, urged all Christians to be embodiments of lives that directed others to God.
Rev Fr Ibe, who based his reflections on the readings of that Sunday (Isaiah 58:7-10, I Corinthians 2:1-5 and Matthew 5:13), likened Christians to thermostats. The Catholic priest urged Christians to, by way of living up to the demands of their calling, shine out over what he described as darkness of corruption, embezzlement, injustice, poor administration, bad governance, killings, and the likes in society.
