Young Citizens Leadership Platform Holds 2018 South East Conference

An apolitical youth group known as Young Citizens Leadership Platform (YCLP), on Saturday, January 19, 2019, held its 2018 Annual South East Conference with the theme: The Role of Young Leaders in a Time Like This.

The conference which was held at King David Hotels, Awka Anambra State, had the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate in the February 16, 2019 Nigerian Presidential Election, Mr. Peter Obi, CON as the keynote speaker, and had a good number of capable youths from the five South East states – Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo and Abia in attendance.

The keynote paper presenter, Mr. Peter Obi, CON, KSS, who was represented by Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, advised the youths against greed, covetousness and laziness, but strive for virtues of honesty and hardwork which the Igbos were known for.

Obi, who is a former governor of Anambra State, observed that one’s success in life was on the premise of God’s grace and hard work. He advised against greedy quest for money, but urged the youths to, with commitment follow that good deed which they had passion for, and be sure that God would bless them with riches.

On what were expected from the youth in the 2019 Nigerian General Election, the PDP Vice Presidential candidate exhorted the youths against mischiefs, election thuggery and rigging, but instead follow the due process and vote in good candidates into various positions for their own good and that of others and the society.

Mr. Peter Obi, who bagged the Young Citizens Leaders’ Man of the Year, 2018 Award, stressed the need for the youths, whom he described as leaders of today and tomorrow, to be part of the leadership process. He warned the youths against disregarding the election processes which was part of the activity that defined their future. ‘Be part of the election process which decides your future. Ensure you vote in good candidates who have the passion to work for your own good and that of the society. Do not disregard the processes? Obi advised.

The YCLP Man of the Year, 2018 Award conferred on Obi, CON, was in appreciation of his outstanding performance in governance and economic development.

Speaking on the occasion, the senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone and the APGA Candidate for the same zone in the February 2019 Senatorial Election, Senator Victor Umeh, OFR, KSS, charged the youths, who he said constitute a greater voting population to make good use of their voting power.

He enjoined the youths to vote right so as to have good leaders, saying that wrong voting would amount to bad leaders that would destroy the society.

Senator Umeh, who bagged the Young Citizens Leaders’ Senator of the Year, 2018 Award, urged the youths to be the light and agent of change to others, especially to the non-educated individuals. He thanked the group for the award and commended the youths for coming together under the YCLP to define leadership towards contributing to societal development.

Another awardee was the CEO, Capital Oil & Gas Ltd and Young Progressive Party (YPP) Candidate for Anambra South Senatorial Zone in the 2019 Senatorial Election, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, who bagged the Young Citizens Leaders’ Philanthropic Personality of the Year, 2018 Award.

Other awardees were the Chairman, CEO, Innoson Industries Ltd, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, OFR, who bagged the Young Citizens Leaders’ Manufacturer of the Year Award, 2018 and Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo, who was honoured with the Young Citizens Leaders’ Ambassador of the Year Award, 2018.

In his address of welcome, the Director General, Young Citizens Leaders Platform (YCLP), Comrade Tochukwu Obiadi, described YCLP, which is structured in the South Eastern states as a societal platform of young leaders that are influential, capable and determined to move the society forward, as leaders of today and tomorrow.

He described the conference which took place head of the Nigerian General Elections as apt, saying that it was an opportunity for the youths to reflect on their participation in politics and governance as leaders. The DG noted that as apolitical group, YCLP insisted on voting in capable and humble personalities who had the passion to serve and move the society forward.

Obiadi through his address, solicited for supports from well-meaning and public spirited individuals towards the YCLP’s needs of setting up an empowerment scheme for the unemployed youths, a functional secretariat and utility bus for proper and easier operation.
