The Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, says the reason they are demolishing shanties and busting criminal hideouts in the state is to ensure a clean and healthy Anambra State and also assist in ridding the state of hoodlums and unscrupulous elements.
Comrade Anere who stated this in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, noted that the operation was carried out by a special enforcement team of OCHA Brigade saddled with the responsibility of chasing away all the criminals operating within Anambra State.
Anere stated that the special enforcement team commenced operation recently to remove all illegal structures and chase criminal elements in their hideout in order to restore sanity in the state.
According to him, those criminals terrorizing the area had been maiming and committing all kinds of heinous crimes on innocent citizens and business owners plying the road.
Anere stated that several incidences of crimes like kidnapping and carjacking had been going on in the place.
He also described the spot as tipoff points for informants of organized crimes in the area.
According to him, the area had continued to be a nightmare for business owners who occasionally fell victims to arm robbery, kidnapping and theft.
‘The dismantling of these shanties and illegal structures will also aid the free flow of water through the canals as these structures were constructed on waterways which have obstructed the drainage system. Aside the above stated, it will help reduce traffic and decongest the area for smooth vehicular movement.
