We Must Re-evaluate the Recruitment Process of Our Leaders – Obi

By Mercy Hill

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for the re-evaluation of the recruitment process of leaders in Nigeria, irrespective of their leadership positions.

Obi who spoke on AIT on Monday, May 11, 2020, said until Nigeria re-evaluated the way they chose their leaders at all levels of government, no meaningful progress would be recorded.
Decrying the dearth of true leadership in Nigeria, Obi said, it was the reason the country had continued to decline in many areas.

“Nigerians have to re-evaluate the process they employed in choosing their leaders. And when I talk about leadership, I mean leadership at all levels and positions of power.”
“The situation we have in Nigeria now is a situation where one or two people are trying to do something good, and the rest of the people are not doing anything”, Obi said.

Illustrating his points more vividly, Obi continued “Imagine an airline that needs to employ 100 pilots to fly 100 planes, if they end up employing 5 pilots and 95 drivers, obviously only 5 planes will be flying, the rest will be grounded, because they are not trained pilots. It will only be a matter of time before the airline is out of business.

That is the situation we have in the country now. But if the airline had 95 pilots and 5 drivers, they will certainly do fine”.

Obi urged Nigerians to always elect competent leaders who, with the right investment in education, health and micro scale businesses, can lift millions of people out of poverty.
