Holy Ghost Academy Amaokpala, Orumba North L.G.A. Anambra State on Saturday, 3rd March, 2018 had different calibers of personalities converge in the school as they celebrated their 15th year of existence, feast day and also had their inter-house sports competition. The event which also had the launching of their school magazine, ‘The counsellor’ Vol.2, No.3 began with a holy Eucharistic Celebration led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Gregory Olikenyi, C.S.Sp, the Provincial Superior, Holy Ghost Congregation, Province of South East, Nigeria.
In his address of welcome, the principal of the school, Rev. F. Dr. Innocent Nweke, C.S.Sp, appreciated the presence of the superior, Dr. Gregory Olikenyi, C.S.Sp and also thanked the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most. Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor and His Auxiliary, Most Rev, Jonas Benson Okoye for their fatherly love and care towards the school. He used the medium to welcome all who through their help, the school has recorded a massive success in Anambra and beyond. Soliciting for immediate support on the school access roads and Chapel, Fr. Nweke thanked immensely, the governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano and His Wife, Chief Mrs. Eberechukwu Obiano who were ably represented by Mrs. Mitchelle Onugbolu, SSA to the governor on Social Reorientation for their immense support to the school.
Earlier in his homily, Rev. Fr. Dr. Gregory Olikenyi, C.S.Sp, the Provincial Superior Holy Ghost Congregation, Province of South East, Nigeria, charged the parents to join hands in empowering their children to move forward to a greater height in academics and other ramifications of life. He further urged them to inculcate in the children good morals and build in them strong faith. Also advising the members of staff of the school, Rev. Fr. Olikenyi stated the importance of impacting knowledge in a child as the sole duty of the teachers. He further appreciataed the school management led by the principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Innocent Nweke, C.S.Sp, for the good seeds they are planting in the students which have started bearing fruit in Nigeria and beyond. He therefore prayed that God would grant them more wisdom to lead the school.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the event, Mr. Benjamin Nweke, CEO Big Ben Global Logistics, Lagos thanked all who deemed it a great necessity to honour their invitation, especially the parents who had come to support the children for the inter-House sports. He also advised the students never to relent in their studies but continue steadfastly in accepting the upbringing and discipline given to them in the school for a greater tomorrow.
Pledging his support for the school during the Launching of the school’s magazine, ‘The Counsellor’ Vol.2, No.3, Chief Norbert Obi, Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Anambra State, stated that the school has left her marks on the sands of time, therefore he will not fail to harken to the voice of their call anytime. Also supporting the school, the First Lady of Anambra State, Chief Mrs. Eberechukwu Obiano, represented by Mrs. Mitchelle Onugbol,; SSA to the governor on Social Reorientation stated that she will do the best she could to give the school her deserved quota as they continue to make waves in the society.
The occasion took a greater shape when the White House of the school took home the overall trophy, while the Green house come Second and Pink House third in the inter-house sports competition. Highlights of the Inter-House sports competition are; Match Past, Volley ball, Races (100m, 200m, 1500m), Long Jump, Short Jump, Table Tennis among others.
Later in his vote of thanks, the principal of the school, Rev. F. Dr. Innocent Nweke, C.S.Sp, thanked the almighty God who in His infinite mercy granted them great weather throughout the occasion. He also thanked the Chairman of the occasion who had remained unalloyed to the calls of the school. He again appreciated the presence of Rev. Fr. Dr. Gregory Olikenyi, C.S.Sp, the Provincial Superior Holy Ghost Congregation Province of South East Nigeria and the Bishop of Awka Diocese who was represented by Msgr. Jeremiah Ikesi. Finally, he thanked the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school for the great support in the growth of the school and prayed that the good Lord would lead the safely to their abodes.
