State of Unubi MDGs Centre Worries Lawmaker

By Abuchi Onwumelu

The member representing Nnewi South 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Sonny Ozobialu, recently inspected the abandoned MDG’s Skills Acquisition Centre located at Unubi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Inspecting the centre, Hon. Ozobialu stated that he was worried that such a completed centre was not equipped since 2009 it was built, pointing out that had the centre been functional, many youths would have benefited from it.

He therefore promised to put the necessary equipment in the Skills Acquisition Centre where youths of Unubi and other neighbouring communities in Nnewi South 1 Constituency would be mentored on various skills for self-reliance.

Earlier while receiving the House member on behalf of the community, the President General of Unubi Town Union, Mr Cosmas Abanobi, thanked Hon. Ozobialu for choosing the community for what he described as a wonderful project.

He promised him the support of Unubi Town in ensuring that any equipment brought to the centre would be protected against theft.

For his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Hon. Chieloka Henry Okoye, appreciated the House member for hitting the ground running, even when some of his colleagues were still struggling to find their footing.

He noted that had the centre been functional, it would have assisted the LGA in managing the increasing cases of youth cultism in society and other social vices.

Others who joined him on the inspection included, the Special Assistant to Gov. Obiano on Political Matters, Hon. Tochukwu Okonkwo; the Anambra State cordinator of SDG – Mr Johnpaul, among others.
