St. Patrick’s College Receives Over 1000 Library Books

St. Patrick’s College, Awka, Awka South LGA of Anambra State has received over 1000 textbooks for library use from an Awka Diocesan Priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Adolphus Chukwuka courtesy of Simco Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Barrie Ontario, Canada.

The educational textbooks worth thousands of Naira which cuts across different disciplines were donated to the school on Friday, September 21, 2018.

Donating the books, Fr. Chukwuka who is the Educational Secretary of Awka Region in Awka Catholic Diocese, charged the students on the effective use of the donated books. He beckoned on them to make total use of the educational facilities provided by the school management to better their lives and stand out in any given task. He assured the school management of his continuous support and partnership geared at making the school the number one in Anambra State.

Speaking to Fides, Fr. Chukwuka who described himself as a product of the church having started everything that had added value to his life from the church, said, the book donation was his little way of giving back to the church and society what he benefited when he was their level.

He noted that his target was to equip the library of many schools within Awka Diocese and beyond for the benefit of students. He explained that the book which he usually sourced during his holiday period in Canada was to get enough educational materials and provide students with varied readable materials.

Fr. Chukwuka who regretted the poor state of internet facilities in most Nigerian schools which hinders qualitative research, expressed optimism that the donated books would assist students develop their vocabulary and provide good reference material for research purposes. He disclosed that the information which goggle can provide could be gotten from the reference books.

He said that the books donated to St. Patrick’s College, came from Good Shepherd Elementary School, Berrie Ontaino; Catherine Donnelly & St. Monica Elementary Schools through the help of Mrs. Charity Harrison and Nicole Nicoletta respectively under Simco Muskoka School Board. He revealed that he had the intention of donating more books to more schools when his shipment arrives Nigeria from Ontaino, saying that the idea behind the donation was to equip the library of the schools especially those with relatively no books in their library.

Receiving the books, the School Manager, Rev. Fr. Celestine Anaekwe thanked Fr. Chukwuka for the initiative and idea behind the book donation. He described the library as the power house for students and teachers, saying that the books when used effectively would mark the students as special breeds.

He disclosed that students of the College believe that books are great friends, have something new to offer whenever one picks them up and never complains of being tired. He maintained that the students’ philosophy towards books had shown them as people who were eager and ready to learn, noting that the future of the students’ are nutured with they read and taught in the classroom. He assured the donor that the books would be used effectively used by the students.

Speaking after the book donation, the school Vice Principal, Sir Charles Agozie, while appreciating the donor recalled the various assistance which the school had received from Fr. Chukwuka in the past. He emphasized the importance of a well-equipped library in a school and urged the students to use the provided books to be better individuals.

On her part, a student of the college, Chisom Okoye promised the donor that students would make effective use of the educational materials donated to the school.
