St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Awgbu, Mary-land, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, came alive, August 5, as youths of the parish came together to mark the end of Youth Week Celebration in the Parish. The event which was a one week programme, lasted from 29th July to 5th August at the church’s premises.
The celebration which had the majority of its attendees as youths, provided an avenue for enlightenment and reorientation of their skills and knowledge in personal development as they received lectures.
The parish priest of St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Awgbu, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ezeonyeama, who disclosed this in his homily centred on the righteous life of a youth, told youths to put God first before any other thing by abstaining from sin and disobedience and charged them to show kindness, love and humility as children of God.
Speaking on the occasion the seminarian on Apostolate Work, Bro David Okonkwo, in his motivational lecture advised the youths on the importance of hard work, charging them to stay away from watching pornography, which, he said, did no one any good.
While admonishing the youths to take full advantage of the invaluable leadership education the Church offered them, he pointed out that the beginning of wisdom for the youths should be the fear of God.
This was even as he charged the youths to cast their votes to elect persons of their choice into office, as well as to contest elections to positions of their interest.
In an interview, the President CYON, St Joseph’s Parish, Awgbu, Bro Chukwunonso Ginikanwa, expressed joy that the youths turned up massively for the event, and urged them to give their life to Christ.
Highlights of the event included quiz competition, volley ball and football matches.
