By CP Uzoaganobi
On Saturday 29 January 2023, all roads led to St Johnbosco Seminary, Isuaniocha, for the celebration of the Seminary’s patron saint feast. The celebration started with a Holy Mass presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, along with other priests. About 90 seminarians recieved the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The Bishop urged the parents to endeavour to train their children well at home to complement the efforts of teachers in school. Noting that it was not a must to be a Priest after attending the seminary, Bishop Ezeokafor described the seminary as a place where responsible and reputable persons in the society were raised.
Fides recalls that since the inception of the seminary(1982) to the last academic session 2022/2023, the seminary had recorded many success stories, both in academics and sports.
The Rector, Rev Fr Daniel Eduzor, disclosed that of the 400 students that sat for the Nigerian Mathematics and Science Olympiad for both junior secondary, three of the students clinched the 1st, 6th and 18th positions and by so doing qualified for the second round of the competition.
Same success story was recorded in both junior and senior secondary categories of the Royal National English Olympiad Examination which earned them national awards.
St Johnbosco Seminary emerged as overall winner at the 2022 Onitsha Ecclesiastical Provincial All Minor Seminary Games in what was described as “baazar of medals”.
The celebration created an avenue to inspire, encourage and reward students that had an outstanding performance, both in classroom exercise and outside.
The event was chaired by Dr. Clem Nwogbo, represented by Rev Fr. Patrick Okafor. Other dignitaries included the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Ernest Ezeajughi; Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, represented by Tony Nchekwube Dinga; Royal Father of the day, HRM Igwe Ugochimalueze, R. N. Iloh (Ise of Nise); Mother of the Day, Lady Ify Obiudu (LSM); the Unique Lady of the Day, Mrs Ifeoma Paul-Nwabisi; President of Savio Bosco Old Boys Association (SABOBA), Mr Celestine Oguegbu, some priests, reverend sisters, teachers, among others.
