St John Bosco Seminary Hosts Day 7 of ComWEEK

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) decided that the World Communications Day, would now be commemorated as a weeklong event tagged Communications Week (ComWEEK) in Nigeria, and the maiden edition took place from May 22-29, 2022.  The theme of this year’s celebration was ”Listening with the Ear of the Heart”.

As part of the celebration of the 2022 ComWEEK, Fides Media, the Social Communications Directorate of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, organized a seminar for students of St John Bosco Seminary, Isuaniocha, Awka North LGA, Anambra State, on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, the Rector of St John Bosco Seminary, Isuaniocha Rev. Fr PaulMary Chukwukebe, welcomed the Fides Media ComWEEK team to the seminary and appreciated them for selecting the school for the event.

While giving his introductory speech, Rev. Fr Dr Martin Anusi, the Director of Fides Media, explained to the students the meaning and importance of ComWEEK celebration, and appreciated the Management of the school for welcoming the team to the seminary.

Starting the presentation, an ex-seminarian and Fides Media Studio videographer, Mr. Francis Chukwuebuka Nwankwo, spoke on ”Evangelizing the Social Media”. He explained to the seminarians the need to use the social media as a means of evangelization.

In another presentation, Miss Amarachukwu Okpunobi, who is a licensed nurse, and a reporter with Fides Media, taught on ”Edutainment”, explaining the need to use tints of entertainment for education.

Taking the lecture further, Adejumoke Aminat Alebiosu, a reporter and photographer working with Fides Media, enlightened the students on how to use the social media space for networking, while talking on ”Social Networking”.

Alexander Johnson Adejoh, the Production Manager of Fides Media, took the students on the topic, ”Career Choice”. He encouraged the students to develop a career which would also help their vocation as priests in the making.

For her part, Mercy Hill, the Head of the Fides Media Studio, discussed extensively, ”Digital Entrepreneurship”, she spoke on the internet becoming the new market for everything, especially the gospel.

Daniel Ochiabutor, who is also a videographer with the Fides Media Studio, took the last presentation on ”Content Creation”. He urged the students to develop content that could publicize the gospel.

Recall that the theme for the seminar was, ”Effects of Social Media on Youths in Nigeria”.

Highlights of the event was the winning of the payment for his one year tuition fees in the seminary by Master Osinachi Obed Otti, a seminarian who was bold to respond intelligently to a question from one of the presentations; speeches; drama; music; cultural dance display  by the Igbaeze cultural group, formed by the students of the school;  among others.
