. . . Without Discipline, Schooling is a Waste- Bishop Okpaleke
By Princess Chinecherem Efobi
The former bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev Dr Peter Okpaleke has said that any education without discipline is a total waste of resources and time. The prelate said this in his homily at St Anthony Catholic Comprehensive Institute (SACCI) Agulu, on November 14, 2018, on the occasion of the school’s investiture of new students, and prize giving day.
Quoting excerpts from the Bible, the Amesi born bishop said meaningful corrective measures like proper punishments of erring students make the students sit up and shun misdemeanor. He however cautioned against excessive use of force on students and abuse of minors, saying it retards growth and proper development in students.
Bishop Okpaleke admonished SACCI students to pay attention in class to be better than their teachers in future. ‘Knowledge is power. Knowledge leads to success. You ought to be disciplined to achieve your dream in life’ the bishop said. He further urged teachers to teach with gentleness and patience so as to carry all students along.
In his speech, the SACCI Manager, Rev Fr Dr Anselm Ugoo Ngana thanked Bishop Okpaleke, the priests and Religious present, as well as staff, PTA and students for joining hands to make SACCI grow daily from strength to strength. He charged the newly invested students to aspire to excellence as it is synonymous with SACCI. He prayed for talents from among them to change the face of humanity for the better.
New students were presented with their blessed new school uniforms. Speeches, social events and prayers formed other major highlights of the day.
