Hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers last Wednesday invaded the National Association of Catholic Corps Members (NACC) Lodge at Nodu, Okpuno, Awka, Anambra State, and carted away cash, a phone and other valuables, and left scores worried, reports Alexander Johnson Adejoh.
According to one of the victims, Mr Justine David, President, NACC Anambra State Chapter, the incident happened at about 4am, April 28, when the robbers attacked the corps members.
Fides discovered that the robbers used machetes to scare the corps members away, while thereafter using a long stick to pick the phone belonging to one of the lodgers through the window. They also dispossessed other residents of the lodge of their valuables, including money and gadgets, before leaving the lodge.
‘We thank God that no corps member was harmed but we are really terrified by the incident and once our chaplain visits the lodge later in the day, we will report the development to the police,’ the NACC President said.
While standing by the resolve of being more security conscious, Mr David, who noted that the case was not yet reported to the police, urged the Anambra State Government to engage major stakeholders to tackle insecurity in the state.
Meanwhile, a source privy to the incident told Fides that there was nothing more to the attack than mere robbery from some idle youths in the town.
The police spokesperson could not be reached as at press time.
