Three Batch A Stream 2 corps members who left the Umuawulu\Mbaukwu Orientation Camp in Anambra State last Monday, were attacked by armed robbers along Juhel Parential Drug Ltd, opposite Mano Hotel, Nodu, Okpuno in Awka South LGA. The incident took place just few houses away from the National Association of Catholic Corps Members (NACC) Lodge at same Nodu, Okpuno.
Fides reports that the robbers forcefully dragged the ladies and carted away cash, phones, ATM cards and other valuables, apart from rough handling them.
One of the victims, Miss Ogor Patience Kumomo, from Rivers State, said the incident happened at about 6pm. She described it as a terrifying experience.
Fides discovered that the armed robbers held the corps members at gun point, taking their money and other valuables. They also robbed other people walking on the road at the time of their operation and thereafter told them to run off immediately.
‘We are imploring that the Anambra State Government to critically look into this issue of insecurity and look for every means to ensure that the people in the state are safe in their environment,’ Miss Kumomo said.
While echoing the need for the state to be more security conscious, Mr Justine David, the NACC president, who noted that the case had not yet been reported to the police, urged the Anambra State Government to engage major stakeholders to tackle insecurity in the state.
‘Police patrol should be consistent along the road to help curb the activities of armed robbers,’ he further advised.
Fides reports that the Nodu area is a fertile ground for robbers and cultists, and barely a week passes without reports of robbery.
