The Provost of the Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze, Dr. Tessy Okoli, has re-affirmed her commitment towards securing a better and improved welfare package for staff of the College in order to boost their productivity.
Dr. Okoli made the disclosure at her office recently during a courtesy visit by the new executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Chapter, and other members of the Union.
The provost disclosed that staff welfare occupied her administration’s top priorities and noted that during her time as the Dean of Students Affairs, she advocated for improved staff welfare package, noting that the cause would be championed in her stay as the provost.
She revealed that the records of most staff members in the College had been streamlined and such staff members placed at their rightful positions, noted that when staff members were given their due, they would work more for the institution, as, according to her, happy staff members remained productive.
She maintained that when staff members were happy, they tended to work more and make sacrifices that were mostly outside the official work schedule. She expressed optimism that the productivity of the staff members would assist in transforming the College to attain greater heights in all spheres.
She emphasized the important roles which journalists played in society and tasked them on factual reportage devoid of bias as they went through the information dissemination function, which, she noted, could bring down any nation. She commended journalists in the state for being part of the College and informing the world of their activities.
While agreeing to attend to the requests brought before her by the NUJ, Dr. Okoli, stressed that the institution needed more interventions from the federal government in the areas of construction of network of roads and tackling the erosion problem in the College.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr. Emeka Odogwu, appreciated the provost for bringing a new lease of life in the institution, especially in the areas of staff welfare which was attained after the encumbrances hindering the promotion of staff member was cleared, for facilitating the construction of the College’s entrance road and other laudable projects in the College.
While informing the Provost of the new leadership in NUJ, Anambra State Council, the new Chairman, Dr. Odogwu, invited her to the forthcoming Media Summit of the Council, saying that it would provide her an opportunity to market her efforts in the institution.
Also Speaking, the Deputy Provost, Dr. Christopher Ugwuogor, said that when one was in a leadership position, such a person tended to see things differently and promised that the institution would partner with the NUJ.
In a vote of thanks, the Vice-Chairman of the Council, Comrade Ngozi Obileri, thanked the institution for the warm reception and commended the provost for the synergy between her and her Management Team, saying it would augur well for the College.
