Pray for Nigeria, Be Security Conscious, Bishop Ezeokafor Urges

…Insists on Nigeria of Equality for all

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has condemned in strong terms, what he described as the alleged plans of the President Buhari-led Nigerian Government to fulanize Nigeria, insisting on a Nigeria of equal rights for every citizen.

Bishop Ezeokafor, who stated this in his homily of the concelebrated burial Mass for the late Bro Innocent Anichebe Okoh, KSM, and his wife, Lady Catherine Akwuo Anichebe Okoh, at St John’s Parish, Umuokpu, Awka South LGA, Anambra State, on May 7, flayed the Nigerian president over his continued appointment of only fulanis as service chiefs and into other major positions in Nigeria.

According to the bishop, such lopsided appointments and the alleged presidential freedom which the Fulani herdsmen and the northern bandits enjoyed while they terrorized the people of other ethnicity with sophisticated weapons, indicated plans to make Nigeria a country dominated by the Fulanis.

He insisted that Nigeria was a heterogeneous country, and should be a country where every Nigerian would have equal access to rights, privileges and opportunities, saying that any policy which favoured one ethnic group at the detriment of others was injustice.

Bishop Ezeokafor described as unacceptable the continued marginalization of people of other ethnic groups while the fulanis were favoured, as well as the constant attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

The Catholic prelate, who also frowned over what he described as the incessant insecurity in the country, urged all to pray for Nigeria, which he said, was in great distress, as well as do their part for the good of the country.

Citing the recent abductions of students across Nigeria and the attack on a governor’s house despite the security personnel, the bishop observed that Nigeria was no longer safe. He advised all to be more security conscious so as to ensure their safety, and the government to do the needful in order to give the citizens a secure nation.
