The People's Democratic Party, PDP, Anambra State Chapter, last Thursday took delivery of 340 party registers from a frontline guber aspirant, Dr Obiora Okonkwo. The registers are for the 326 wards of the party in the state.
Receiving the registers on behalf of the party at the PDP Secretariat in Awka, the state chairman, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu, thanked the donor for his gesture, remarking that Okonkwo had long been identifying with the party in the state.
Nwobu used the occasion to reiterate the party's resolve to conduct free and fair primaries to the satisfaction of all, assuring that it would no more be business as usual.
He also noted that Okonkwo's visit had further underlined the authenticity of the party's leadership under his watch and assured members from the 21 local government areas who were at the party office for the event of fair and equal treatment.
In his speech, Dr Okonkwo, who stressed the importance of ward chairmen, and described them as the Lords of the party, said those produced by the party owed the party the responsibility of accounting to it.
Describing the ward as very important, being that it formed the foundation of party membership, Okonkwo recalled his efforts at strengthening the party through personal donations over the years, even when he was not contesting for any office. He urged the party not to allow anyone to control it.
Okonkwo who is from Ogidi in Anambra Central, told the party members that the destiny of the party was in their hands and advised them against placing money first.
He urged them to join him in the fight to get things right in the party so that the party would come out from its years in the wilderness, even as he urged them not to joke with the chance offered by the coming guber election by making mistakes.
He described his aspiration as enjoying the support of God.
