Prof. Chukwuma Soludo

A renowned economist and former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has given out N1.92m to the management of Holy Child Secondary School, Isuofia, for the payment of the WAEC fees of 128 students of the school. The largesse was part of his pledge to the school during his historic visit to the institution barely one year ago.
It will be recalled that in acknowledgement of his service to humanity and philanthropy, especially in the area of education, the foremost Catholic Mission School known for maintaining and promoting academic excellence in Awka Diocese, named their newly established library/e-library after Prof. Soludo who, incidentally, is an illustrious son of Isuofia.
Speaking to the management, staff and students at the commissioning of the Prof. Soludo Library/E-library in Mar. 2017, the former Central Bank helmsman had pledged, among other things, to pay the WAEC fees of the students for five years. It was in fulfillment of that promise that the said amount was released to the school.
The manager/principal of the school, Rev. Fr. Julian Anaetoh, who acknowledged the recept of the money with joy, extolled Prof. Soludo for what he called his extra-ordinary philanthropy, describing it as exemplary. He disclosed that Prof. Chukwuma had continued to champion the course of educational empowerment of pupils and students particularly those from low income background.
The clergyman called on all wealthy men and women in Nigeria to borrow a leaf from such gesture and give back to society by offering scholarships and providing funds for the education of helpless children and youths in the country.
Reacting to the news of the payment of the fees, the entire SS3 students who were filled with joy, commended their benefactor. Some of the students who spoke on condition of anonymity, thanked the luminary and prayed God to reward him and promised to appreciate the benevolence by working hard and coming out in flying colours.
