The Anambra State Police Command is to commence a weekly physical exercise in all the Area Commands across the state for its personnel.
The Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, disclosed this when he led police officers and their wives on an early morning exercise last Monday.
During the exercise organized by the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA, the men, flanked by their wives, jogged from the Police Headquarters,Amawbia, to Eke Awka Market, and back to the State Command.
Addressing the men after the exercise, CP Umar said the importance of exercise in the life of a police officer could never be over emphasized, hence the command's decision to close work by two o'clock in the afternoon every Wednesday for officers' exercise.
This is even as he warned that any officer who closed by two o'clock and left without participating in the exercise would be sanctioned.
Mr. Umar explained that five minutes exercise every day would make an officer healthier and more alert and advised them to make exercise one of their everyday routines for a longer life.
For her part, the chairperson of POWA, Hajia Hadiza Umar, said they decided to embark on the exercise with their husbands because they knew that exercise would make them healthier.
The exercise was an opportunity for men of the command to let off steam as they sang and danced to their various songs.
