. . . Takes Advocacy to Catholic Priests
By Amaka Olua
Ahead of 2021 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the People Restoration Movement (PRM) has beckoned on Catholic priests to sensitize the faithful on the dangers of vote buying and selling. They made this call while addressing the priests at Arch-Bishop A.K. Obiefuna Retreat, Pastoral and Conference Centre, Okpuno, during their December Re-collection.
Addressing the priests, the leader, People Restoration Movement (PRM) Engr, Anthony Aniebue, said the movement was created to engage the public on the need to elect credible and visionary leaders into political positions and to educate the masses against what he described as the emerging culture of vote buying and selling, as well as campaign to restructure Nigeria into an autonomous regional government.
He maintained that the People Restoration Movement would help put measures to liberate people from political ignorance, saying it would help restore the dignity of the people. This was even as he said that the economy of Nigeria had been destroyed due to wrong choice of people in power.
Engr Aniebue added that the intention of the People Restoration Movement was to campaign against vote buying and monetization of politics, saying that many people would go as far as selling their votes cheaply and end up voting for the wrong people.
He stated that politicians no longer thought of the interest of the people, thinking only about their selfish interest. This was even as he admonished those imposing leaders on the masses against doing so, noting that people should be allowed to choose their leaders. He maintained that the movement would help restructure Nigeria as well as campaign against vote buying and selling.
Also speaking, a member of the organization, Mr. Nonso Oguno stated that the organization was an ideology based movement which had identified the level of selfishness and wastage in government. He maintained that the organization was created to educate the masses on the dangers of vote buying and selling, saying that the movement would embark on massive political education, via-online platform, as to create awareness to the members of the public.
