The president General (PG) of Umunze, Orumba South L.G.A Anambra State, Hon John Akanyeonu, was on Saturday October 6, 2018, honoured with the distinguished Patron award by the Catholic Laity Council of Umunze Deanery, Awka Catholic Diocese. The honour which was conferred on him on the occasion of the Installation of Patrons and Patronesses held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Umunze was in recognition of his selfless and indefatigable service to Awka Diocese Laity Council.
In his remarks while presenting the award plaque to Akanyeonu, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye described Akanyeonu as a reliable and purposeful leader of repute. He urged him not relent in his good service to the Church and humanity.
Receiving the award, Hon John Akanyeonu thanked God for the honour. He appreciated Umunze Deanery Laity Council, for considering him worthy of recognition and commended the current executive led by Lady Elizabeth Azoro for organizing the installation of the deanery Patrons and Patronesses, pointing out that it pays to serve God.
Akanyeonu enjoined all to selflessly contribute to Church, human and societal development, saying that God would never abandon those that trust in him. He noted that the good and healthy lives as well as protection which the people of God enjoyed were some of the rewards that accompany selfless service to the Church and humanity.
He expressed his joy over the honour which was bestowed on him as the deanery Patron, saying he brings out his time to participate in anything that has to do with religious. He noted that he would do his best to move the Umunze Deanery Laity Council to greater height whenever he is called upon.
In a related development, the President General (PG), Hon John Akanyeonu, stated that his vision as the PG was to bring about development in Umunze and to complete some of the abandoned projects by the government, saying there are a lot of challenges facing the community and will also unite the people because there are a lots of disputes among the people, saying that peace and harmony brings about development in the community and the society as a whole and he is bound to take the community to a greater height.
He noted that he would set up committees that would look into the Students affairs in order to know the bright ones that would be qualified for his scholarship scheme.
