Umunze Deanery Catholic Laity Council, on Saturday, October 6, 2018, installed distinguished individuals as patrons and patronesses of the Deanery Laity Council. The well-attended event was held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Umunze, Orumba South L.G.A Anambra State.

Leading in the Concelebrated Holy Mass that preceded the event, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye, congratulated the new patrons and patronesses on their elevated honour, and urged them not to relent in their service to God, the Church and humanity.

In his homily, Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye, who based his reflections on the readings of the Saturday, urged all to learn from Job, who though he was a wealthy man, but stood for his faith in God throughout his period of sorrow, hardship, sickness and great loss of his children and livestock. He noted that for not speaking against God when he was tempted by Satan and lost all he had, Job had distinguished himself as a righteous man.

Pointing out that every child of God was bound to face trials, the bishop chided Christians, who abandoned God due to temptations to desist from such faithless lifestyle. This was even as he warned those who carried out fake miracles in the name of God, to beware of the wrath of God. Bishop Okoye, who solicited for continuous donations in support of Church projects, advised the faithful to be careful of whom they meet for miracles and prayers, saying that God created them to love him, serve him and on the last day, be with him in heaven.

Speaking on the occasion, the Dean, Umunze Deanery and parish priest, St Joseph's Parish, Umunze, Rev Fr Basil Ezekeli thanked God for his love, and the bishop for his fatherly love and care to the deanery. He congratulated the new patrons and patronesses, and prayed God to endow them with their grace to live up to the demands of their responsibility.

In her welcome address, the President, Umunze Deanery Laity Council, Lady Elizabeth Azoro, solicited for financial supports and encouragements that would enable the deanery which she said had suffered many setbacks, to move ahead and attend to her many needs.

The patrons include Hon. William Anyaegbu, Nze Cajethan C. Okpalauba, Mr Basil Sunday Okoli, Mr Onyeka Onyeanusi, Chief Sir Okpara Christopher, Sir Christian E. Emele, Bro Fabian Okpara, Hon John Akanyeonu and Mr Echezona Ezeh. While the patronesses were Mrs. Agatha Ifionu, Dr. Rose Nkechi Nwankwo, Lady Helen Nwadimma Onwuzurike, Mrs. Chinyere Angelina Nwankwo, Mrs Deborah Nwafor and Mrs. Alex Esiobi.
