Fides gathered that the commitment of the aged, led to the propagation of the Catholic faith and increase recorded in the number of church faithful for the past 120 years following the advent of Catholicism in the community.
The celebration, which was used to conclude the 10 years anniversary of the parish creation, doubled with the pastoral visit of the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Jonas Benson who administered the Sacrament of Confirmation on 76 deserving Catholic faithful.
It should be recalled that Bishop Okoye had declared open, the 10th anniversary of the parish creation during the Parish's Patron Feast Day and blessing of Grotto donated by Mr. Dozie Okekeuche on July 1, 2018.
Speaking at the occasion, Bishop Okoye commended the collective and individual efforts of the parishioners which necessitated the growth which had been recorded in the parish. Earlier in his homily, Bishop Okoye pinpointed what it takes for one to be identified as a true Christian and tasked the faithful to always allow Christ to be seen by others through their conduct and actions in the community.
He identified the various ways in which the parishioners can support their parish, noting that it was important for people who had received from God to give back to God for the propagation of God's words.
Bishop Okoye while inaugurating the new Parish Pastoral Council Members, charged them to always stand on the path of truth and desist from engaging in activities that would jeopardize the faith of other faithful in the community. He said it was important for the council members to always stand on the path of truth and lend a helping hand to the Parish Priest as such would ensure steady both structural and spiritual growth.
The Catholic prelate thanked the Parish Pastoral Council for initiating the idea behind celebrating the aged parishioners. He expressed belief that the idea would help the younger ones to be more committed in the affairs of the church, ignite their fire to be steadfast in the faith of the church with the belief that such effort would be celebrated at due time.
In his remark, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Christopher Nnonyelu appreciated God for the numerous blessings which the parish had been blessed with.
