Book Launch: Uga PG Encourages Good Reading Culture, Documentation

The President Genereal (PG) of Uga Improvement Union (U.I.U), Chief Sir James Egbeigwe (KSC), has encouraged all to develop good reading culture and key in to proper documentation of one's or institution's life and activities, so as to avoid a distorted history.

Chief Sir Egbeigwe made this known at his book launch titled: The Man 'Egbigwe' of Uga Ancient Kingdom, the Biography of Chief Sir James Obi Umezulora, KSC, BSC, at Oru Agency Hall, Umuoru Uga, Aguata L.G.A, Anambra State on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

The book which was written by Dr. Jude C. Nwakamma, and divided into chapters, had 'the life of Remarkable Man, Egbigwe, who was known for his determination, perseverance and success with which he overcame all odds and achieved so much in life as its content.

Other contents of the book included, Chief Umezulora's early life story; his religious life and activities; brief history of Uga Ancient Community- appointment and achievements, and the achievements of Chief Sir James Umezulora.

Speaking on the occasion, the Transition Chairman of Aguata, Hon Eche Ezeibe, who was represented by the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Tony Anadi, applauded Chief James Umezulora-led administration for the government presence attracted, and the many developmental strides in Uga.

Ezeibe described Umezulora as a goal getter, a humble and hardworking man. He enjoined Uga people to pray for, and with their conscience, elect a capable and hardworking PG after Egbeigwe, who would have the interest of the town and the people at heart.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Engr. Godwin Okolo commended Egbigwe for taking the lead in such worthwhile education exercise. He urged all to imbibe positive reading culture for their own benefits, saying that the importance of reading which boosts knowledge in the lives of all could not be overemphasised.

The book reviewer, Prof Godwin Umeasiebgu, while unveiling the book, noted that reading makes a rich man; conference a ready man and writing an exact man. He added that education was the single most important tool for human and community development. He reviewed the book chapter by chapter and called on the public to emulate such record keeping of events and history for generations to come.

On what inspired him to write and document such historical encyclopaedia, Egbeigwe disclosed that it was to set the records straight and exact in history. He observed that such was necessary to avoid distorted history in future, which might be caused by omission or the absence of those involved.

The PG attributed the secrets of his successes in life to God's mercy and grace, as well as the support and understanding of his wife and children.

On his prayers for Uga Community as his tenure drew to a close, Umezulora pleaded for unity as the watchword for sustainable community development.

He identified settlement of Oka Village leadership problem; his assistance which made the last ofala Festival of late Igwe Felix Ezenwugo Ezeobieri possible; organisation of raffle draw with Sienna as the star prize for the Obuofor Uga Centenary Celebration; laying of the Foundation Stone of Uga Civic Centre, rehabilitation of Uga Improvement Union Secretariat at Nkwo Uga; Police Station at Oka Uga, attraction of Police Area Command in Uga and donation of a Security Hilux Van to the Command for maintenance of peace and order in Uga, as some of the achievements of his administration.

Other achievements of Egbigwe's administration include, reconstruction of Oye Uga Market to a modern market, ongoing reconstruction of Nkwo Uga Market and scholarships to many Uga sons and daughter who were in various universities.

Also, the former PG of Uga, Chief Emmanuel Onyeharam (Ezeudo of Uga), corroborated Umezulora's giant achievements, and described his Administration as mission accomplished. Onyeharam commended Egebigwe for the peace which Uga enjoyed throughout his administration due to the special attention paid to security.

HRH, Igwe Chidi Stephen Ezenwugo, Obi of Uga; Igwe Alfred Onwuneme, Alupuaku of Ikenga; the chief launcher, Barr. Ezekwueme and Egbeigwe Old Boys, who he trained in business, were among others that graced the well-attended event.
