The Awka Diocesan Young Catholic Students' (YCS) annual convention, was held at the St Michael Comprehensive Model Secondary School, Nimo, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State July 23 to 30, 2018.
It was a gathering of all YCSers from all the Private, Mission and Government schools across Awka Diocese. The theme of the convention was “Young Catholic Students: God's gift to the Church and Society”.
In his homily at the opening Mass of the convention on Tuesday, July 24 at the St Michael School Chapel, the Awka Diocesan YCS Chaplain, Rev Fr Dr Jude Ozumba advised the young students not to misuse any opportunity before them in life especially the school age opportunity. Fr Ozumba further asked the students to always do what pleases God so that God will grant them their hearts desires.
Concentrating on the message of the day which is Social Media, the priest told the students to apply wisdom in the interactions of the social media. “When you enter the social media platforms, apply wisdom because there are the good, the bad and the ugly all in there. Use them to advance knowledge and learn more about important things in life. Consult when in doubt of some contents. Avoid pornography and provocative issues as they will sink you in life. Praise God with social media” Fr Jude advised.
The Rev Fr who is both a teacher in secondary school as well as a lecturer in a university told the students in hard words to shun cultism as it marks the gradual demise of those involved in it. He also warned them against tattoo and being used by politicians as political puppets.
School Run will bring you the other programmes of the convention in subsequent editions.
