Bishop Okoye Visits St Mary's Parish Achina, Blesses fathers Rectory, Office Complex Commissions Borehole

The Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, His Lordship Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye, on Sunday, August 12, 2018, paid a Pastoral Visit to St Mary's Catholic Church, Achina, Aguata L.G.A Anambra State, during which he blessed a multi- Million Naira renovated father's Rectory, C.M.O office complex and commissioned a borehole water system for the Parish and Parishioners use.

Speaking at the well-attended occasion, Bishop Okoye commended the Parish Priest, Rev Fr Sabastian Ejie and the parishioners for their efforts towards the actualization of the borehole water system, saying that the borehole project would provide constant water supply to carter for the water needs of the parish and parishioners living around the Parish Compound. He extolled the parish for clearing their debt towards the Peter University, saying that the University would be the first of its kind where the youth would be given proper formation.

In his homily, when he led in a Concelebrated Holy Mass, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye, emphasized God's love towards his children, saying it was their duty to love one another. He maintained that peace, love and togetherness bring development in the Community and the society at large. Bishop Okoye explained that in any family where there was no peace, it would affect the children in future and so cautioned them against anger, saying it destroys many things.

He charged the faithful to take their problems to the Blessed Sacrament where God was ever ready to answer them. He noted that God is the Bread of Life whoever eats lives forever. He advised the newly confirmed to be steadfast in faith as they had received the Sacrament of confirmation and also be ready to defend their faith. He charged them to emulate the foot step of Jesus who they represent on earth. He emphasized the need for effective child training, saying that Parents and the Church alike have important role to play in grooming the faith of the faithful. He expressed satisfaction over the collaboration between the Parishioners and the parish Priest especially in living their faith.

In an address of welcome, the secretary of the Parish Council, Mrs Victoria Nzeamaka, traced the history of the parish and highlighted the efforts of their past Parish Priests. She thanked the Bishop for the gifts of the Parish Priest, Fr Ejie and his Vicar Fr Daniel Odimegwu. she maintained that their coming has brought growth in faith of the faithful and structural development in the church.

On his part, the Chairman of the occasion, Sir Malachi Ezeoke expressed optimism that the collaboration and commitment of the Parishioners in the parish would bring about the completion of the Church for dedication.

In his vote of thanks, the overjoyed Parish Priest, Rev Fr Sabastian Ejie thanked God for the success of the event. He also appreciated the Bishop for his love, care and encouragement to them. He appreciated those who made contributed towards Peter University.
