The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Anambra State has flagged off a massive registration exercise in preparation for the forthcoming presidential election in 2019.
Speaking to Fides during the fag off of the exercise in Abagana, Njikoka LGA, the state chairman of the party, Hon Charles Nwazojie, enjoined all the ward chairmen to carry out a massive mobilization exercise now that they had been equipped by going to the grassroots to ensure that people understood the fact that SDP was the only party that would save Nigeria from the endless killings currently going on.
Nwazojie also expressed confidence that the party would produce the next president and likened the expected victory of the new SDP to that of the late MKO Abiola who won the presidential election on the platform of the then SDP, but whose mandate was quashed by the military head of state of the time.
He noted that even though Abiola's mandate was stolen, he was twenty-five years after, a development, he said, showed that SDP would win the next election.
Hon. Nwazojie, who noted that he was the ward chairman of Abagana 2 when former President Ibrahim Babangida annulled the results of the 1993 election, said he was happy that this time he was the party chairman for his local government, and thus more determined to give the party a facelift, especially now that SDP was here to stay.
He said that now the former president who annulled that election, Ibrahim Babangida, was poised to right the wrongs of the past.
His words, 'We, the SDP, are in dialogue with the new APC that believes that human lives are more sacred than those of cows. Our motive is to decide who our next president will be so that we will collectively vote for him.'
In her statement, the Zonal Chairman of the Central Senatorial Zone, Hon (Mrs) Angela Nnaneme, expressed her resolve to see that the seven local government areas under her senatorial zone carried out their duties devotedly, even as she frowned against the lawlessness, killings and recession in the country. She assured that SDP was the answer to the prayer of Nigerians.
The highlight of the event was the distribution of ward registers to the chairmen of the 18 wards in the local government area.
The 18 ward chairmen are: Azodo Chigozie, Abagana 1; Ibenegbu Amechi, Abagana 2; Ify Aniagor, Abagana 3; Patrick Achusi, Abagana 4; Chukwuma Igbo, Abba 1; Chinweobi Pius O., Abba 2; Boniface Maduka, Enugwu Ukwu 1; Samuel Afamefuna Enweluzor, Enugwu Ukwu 2; Ebele Nkwocha, Enugwu Ukwu 3; Chike Okafor, Enugwu Ukwu 4; Onwujekwe Chibuzor, Nawfia 1; Njike Chinwendu, Nawfia 2; Emma Chinweze, Nimo 1; Onwughalu Joseph, Nimo 2; Amalu Christopher, Nimo 3; Peter Okonkwo, Nimo 4; Innocent Nwankwo, Enugwu Agidi 1 and Emeka Uchendu, Enugwu Agidi 2.
