Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) St. Anthony's Parish, Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA, Anambra State has celebrated her 2018 Sports festival in honour of the immediate past parish vicar, Rev. Fr. Kenneth Amakaeze.
The sports festival in honour of Fr. Amakaeze which was held on Saturday, 16th June, 2018 at the Parish Compound, was as part of the big celebration organized by the entire parish to celebrate the humanitarian qualities of the priest.
Youths of St. Anthony's Parish during the sports festival competed among themselves in male and female category in Badminton, Volleyball, Football, Tyre Jump, Table Tennis and 100 Meter Race.
Speaking to Fides, the Youth President of St. Anthony's Parish, Ekwulobia, Mr. Caius Ezeokafor noted the 2018 Sports Festival was organized to honour Fr. Amakaeze following his contributions during his stay in the parish. He revealed that Fr. Amakaeze during his stay in the parish, provided sports facilities and equipment' for youths in the parish.
The Sports instruments according to Ezeokafor increased the number of members of the parish CYON and renewed zealousness of old Members. He noted that the sports facilities has boosted the spirit of Sportsmanship in the youths of St. Anthony's Parish. The CYON President thanked Fr. Amakaeze for leaving the sports facilities behind for the parish to use and assured him that facilities would be utilized effectively for grooming of talents.
Also Speaking, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Longinus Egbeonu thanked Fr. Amakaeze for his impactful contributions in the lives of the youth. He urged the youths to walk in the light of what they learnt from Fr. Amakaeze, saying that such would bring a great difference in their lives.
Appreciating the youths of the parish, Fr. Kenneth Amakaeze said he felt so honoured for the youths to hold the 2018 Sports Festive in his honour. He beckoned on them to ensure effective utilization of the facilities and materials provided to add value to their individual lives. He revealed his passion for children and youths, saying that proper channeling of inherit potentials would bring a great change in their lives.
He advised the youths to be consistent in any good work which they were doing and to always let their light to shine. He stressed the need of being a light that brings forth illumination to people in darkness. He tasked them on the need for accountability, trustworthiness and faithfulness in any assigned duty.
Presentation of gifts to winners of various sporting activities and participants was highpoint of the event.
