The remains of a former two-time Deputy Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Sir Dr. Donatus Ifeacho Mmuo (KSJI, JP), were on February 9, 2018, interred to rest in his Urunnebo Village, Enugwu-Ukwu Country home, Anambra State.
At the final commendation for the deceased at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko on February 8, the rector of the polytechnic, Professor Godwin Onu, mni, in his tribute on behalf of the institution, noted that the polytechnic lost a perfect gentleman in Sir Dr. Donatus Mmuo.
According to the rector, 'The deceased, fondly known as Dr. Don Mmuo was a dedicated, hardworking and unassuming public servant. He was a devout Christian, an amiable fellow and a perfect gentleman, whose career at Federal Polytechnic, Oko was exemplary in the various capacities he served and positions he held.
Professor continued, 'As the deputy rector for two terms, Dr Mmuo exhibited the highest sense of duty and championed the course of every staff and student, without undermining extant rules and regulations.
The rector, who condoled with the deceased's wife, Lady Augustina Mmuo, and the seven children he left behind over the great loss, noted that the Enugwu-Ukwu Community, Anambra State and Nigeria in general would surely miss Dr. Mmuo's wealth of experience in community development and nation building.
Late Dr. Doantus Mmuo, who died at 66 years on December 29th, 2017, held among others, the following positions at Federal Polytechnic, Oko: Deputy Rector, 2010-2015; Co-ordinator, Continuing Education Programme, 2007-2009; Coordinator, Short Courses- 2006; Deputy Director- Continuing Education Programme -2005; Dean, School of General Studies- 2002; Head, Department of Social Sciences, 2001-2003 and Head, Department of Education Foundation (Sandwich), 1992-1993.
He was the last of the four children of late parents, Mark and Theresa Mmuo. Late Donatus Mmuo, who was a devout Catholic knight, was survived by his wife, Lady Augustina Ngozi Mmuo; his children- Theresa Chinenye, Grace Chioma, Dorathy Chinelo, Hope Chekwubechukwu, Fidelis Anene, Marius Chibuike and Charity Onyinyechukwu Mmuo; his brother, Rt. Rev. Msgr. PatrickMary A. Mmuo; his two sisters- Mrs. Apolonia Offorah and Mrs. Bridget Onugbolu, and other relations.
