No fewer than five persons have been arrested by the police in Anambra State for taking the names of the traditional ruler of the town and Obi of Ozubulu, Obi Nnamdi Oruche to a shrine.
Our correspondent gathered at Ozubulu that the youths of the town had taken the case of the Ozubulu Catholic Church killings that took the lives of about 13 persons to one of the most dangerous dieties in the town called Ndiegwura Shrine after several attempt to unravel the circumstance that led to the incident.
The youths according to our sources, took the name of Chief Alloysius Ikegwuonwu aka Bishop the traditional ruler and Obi of Ozubulu, Obi Nnamdi Oruche, the President General, Chief Peter Uzoukwu and others to the shrine and recorded their complaints to the shrine and posted it in the social media.
Sequel to this, the leadership of the town petitioned the Anambra State Police Command and they were rounded off and charged to court.
Our source who did not want his name mentioned in print said that since the youths were arrested, they have been languishing in the prison awaiting trial. “These youths are aggrieved that since 6th August last year, nobody has been held responsible for the mass killings in the town”. The youths of the town have done everything within their reach but each time were frustrated by some influential people in the town.
“That is the reason they went to the shrine in our traditional way. The source said when our correspondent called on the President General of the town at his Umujiokeru Village Ebema Ozubulu, he was said to have gone back to his base in Lagos.
However, when contacted on phone the President General confirmed the incidence but said he will not say anything until he returned to the village.
Also at the palace of the traditional ruler and Obi of Ozubulu Obi Nnamdi Eruche, his personal aid, told our correspondent that the monarch was not at home.
Another inside source accosted by our correspondent, told him in confidence that the youths would be released at the Ozubulu Magistrate Court. He said they have been granted bail but are waiting to meet the bail conditions.
At the Magistrate Court, the Chief Registrar who pleaded anonymity confided in our correspondent that they have met the entire requirements for their released but the magistrate handling their matter was not sitting on that day.
She however disclosed that they would likely regain their freedom when the magistrate resumes.
The Police Public Relation Officer of Anambra State, Mr. Haruna Mohammed (SP) in a phone call confirmed the report and said they have been charged to court.
