The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Fisheries And Aquaculture Business Development Agency (FABDA), Hon. Emeka Iloghalu, said the Agency’s aim is to make Anambra State the most viable leader in fishery and aquaculture in West Africa Sub-Region, even as he showered praises on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano for the opportunity given to him to serve as the pioneer Managing Director of the newly created Agency.
Addressing Newsmen in Awka, Hon. Iloghalu said that Anambra State would build a fish production center in the three Senatorial Districts of the state, noting that it was part of efforts towards ensuring increased fish production, adding that it would be replicated later at the local government level with the help of investors.
The FABDA who described fishery and aquaculture business as lucrative, said that the state government had recorded lots of milestone in its quest to reposition the sector to make it more attractive for both youths and the aged, which include passing of the fishery and aquaculture bill into law by the State Lawmakers late last year, creation of sixteen segments in aquaculture value chain, such as fish feed, smoked fish, fingering productions, among others.
Hon. Iloghalu said that success in fishery and aquaculture sector would increase the state economy, ensure improved quantity of fish production, and as well the living standards of the people.
He noted that government through the Fishery and Aquaculture Business Development Agency aimed at making the state the most viable leader in fishery and aquaculture in the West Africa, sub-region.
The Managing Director disclosed that the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano last Saturday commissioned the Grand Cereal Fish Feed Production Plant at Onitsha; a fish feed company it attracted to ensure assorted fish feed in the state.
“Government desires to reposition the sector is to make it more attractive for both youths and the aged, so they can go into the business as a career.
‘Efforts are on to pass the fishery and aquaculture bill by the state lawmakers to make it a formidable source of living for Anambra residents.
‘With the creation of 16 segments in aquaculture value chain such as fish feed, smoked fish, fingerling productions, among others, the business will thrive,’ he said.
Iloghalu said that success in the fishery and aquaculture sector would increase the state economy, ensure the improved quantity of fish production and raise the living standards of the people.
