The Acting Executive Secretary and Director, Agency for Mass Literacy Adult and Non-formal Education, Mrs Regina Obianuju Orakwe, has tasked unit heads on hard work and dedication to duty.
Addressing the unit heads from the 21 local government areas during a joint meeting of AANFE staff members at the agency vocational centrr in Awka, Orakwe charged the unit heads to carry out their duties selflessly, including monitoring of learning centres, sensitization and advocacy visits.
The director commended them for the maximum cooperation they had with the immediate retired director, the late Mr Donatus Nwosu, and called for continuous bonding with the agency in other to bring illiteracy to its barest minimum in Anambra State.
The acting director applauded Governor Willie Obiano’s Administration and Basic Education Commissioner, Prof Kate Omenugha, for their constant support to the agency, and also informed them that a new permanent secretary had been appointed in the Ministry of Basic Education in the person of Barr (Mrs) C.N. Obiano (PhD).
Earlier in her address, Orakwe notified the unit heads that the former director had retired from service after 35 successful years in active service, but, unfortunately died two weeks after his retirement.
‘You are by this notification directed to cease every official transaction with his email addresses or phone numbers,’ Mrs Orakwe directed.
She also called for an observation of a minute’s silence in his honour and prayed for the repose of his soul.
One of the unit heads from Ekwusigo LGA, Felicia Akabuike, thanked the new director and assured her of their cooperation for the progress of adult literacy in the state.
