The Novice Master of the Schoenstatt Fathers Community, Ibadan; Rev. Fr. Herbert Opara has described wisdom as the mother of all virtues. He made this statement on the 13th of October, 2018, during his Sunday homily at the Victory Shrine of Our Lady Queen of Schoenstatt, Ijokodo, Ibadan, Nigeria.
According to him, “Wisdom gives one the pristine gift of wise choice which will ultimately lead to a happy life.” “Man needs wisdom so as to live rightly, make right choices and live in harmony with others”, Says the homilist. Wisdom he said should be treasured beyond everything. For him, seminarians need it so as to rightly discern their vocation.
He therefore charged seminarians to always pray for wisdom, just as Solomon did.
He went further to say that wisdom consists of humility, detachment (From the world and from self) and sharing. Through humility, it makes one to live a life worthy of his or her vocation. Through detachment, we seek for eternal life and through sharing, we make others benefit from our talents, our personalities and wealth. The novice master therefore affirmed these views using his personal life experiences saying, “I do not have all I want, but I have all I need.”
He therefore prayed that the good Lord should make us; His creatures to understand the shortness of our days that we may gain wisdom of heart.
