The member representing Njikoka State Constituency II in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Chief Dr Pete Ibida, has described the operation Light up Anambra as one of the best legacy projects of Governor Willie Obiano.
Dr Ibida who spoke to newsmen in Awka while discussing the sustainability of the street lights in Anambra State, said the project had enhanced commercial activities, especially at night, thereby raising the standards of living of the people and adding value to the state’s economy. He urged Anambra residents to vote in a governor that would sustain the legacy projects of the Obiano administration.
Dr Ibida, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, said the State House of Assembly had made a legislative template, empowering the state vigilante operatives to arrest anyone vandalizing government infrastructure.
Contributing, a Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Public Utilities, Mr Dozie Akunne, commended Governor Obiano on the street lighting project, which, he said, had impacted positively on the people, adding that the multidimensional project, among other things, had returned night life to the state.
Mr Akunne who is also the Chairman Anambra State Public Utilities Monitoring Committee, appealed to communities to take full ownership of the street lights and other infrastructure in their communities and protect them against vandalization.
He advised network providers to always liaise with the Ministry of Public Utilities for guidance before laying their underground network equipment to avoid destroying street light cables.
