The Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha North Local Government Council, Mr. Onochie Ozoma, has launched “Operation Open the Gutters/Channels and Desilt” in the Council Area.
Speaking while flagging-off the desilting and clearing of gutters and water channels in the area, the council boss declared total war against the environmental state of the council area.
According to him, members of the Transition Committee in collaboration with the Departments of Environmental Health, Public Health, 15 Wards ASWAMA Teams and Onitsha youths, had started comprehensive actions to recover and restore Onitsha as a place worthy of emulation in clear terms of being clean, green and livable.
The chairman reiterated that the work which started from Omagba Phase 2 Junction would extend down to Main Market, 3-3 and other express roads.
The council boss enjoined the people of Onitsha, tenants, traders and visitors, to desist from throwing refuse inside channels, as well as avoid building stores and trading on the roads and on the gutters.
He equally warned Keke drivers to stop loading along the road, adding that they should go inside designated parks.
He made it clear that government would apprehend offenders to face the disciplinary actors.
The chairman assured the residents of the council area of the continuity of the exercise till the rainy season to make sure the gutters and water channels were clean and free to avoid flooding.
He commended the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his relentless effort to make sure that Onitsha and the entire Anambra State remained clean.
