The Global Anglican Future Conference tagged ''GAFCON 3'' in Jerusalem, successfully ended, Friday, June 22, 2018. This all important conference is the third of its kind since its first gathering in Jerusalem in 2008, a decade ago.
Between 2008 and 2018 Conferences, there was the Nairobi, Kenya's Conference in 2013.
In a synopsis by the Venerable Doctor Gershinen Paul Dajur, General Secretary, Church of Nigeria, GAFCON started in 2008 following the dissatisfaction of Anglican leaders with the acceptance and accommodation of the ills in the global Anglican Communion, especially as it concerned the supremacy of the Gospel of Salvation through Jesus Christ alone, supremacy of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, and the clear teaching of the Holy Scriptures on human sexuality.
Although the 1998 Lambeth Conference, a conference of Anglican Communion Bishops at Lambeth in the United Kingdom, had its resolution 1.10, stating very clearly the position of the Anglican Communion as it relates to the issue of human sexuality and the Holy Scriptures, some provinces of the Communion, especially The Episcopal Church in the United State of America, now known as The Episcopal Church (TEC) and the Anglican Church in Canada, abused the resolution by admitting those who were in homosexual relationships into the priesthood, and particularly into the episcopate, with the consecration of an open gay, Gene Robinson, in 2003.
When all attempts were made to subject these erring provinces and churches to discipline and repentance were downplayed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, a majority of Church leaders within the global south and other places came together and fashioned GAFCON into being and boycotted Lambeth, 2008 for GAFCON, 2008 in Jerusalem.
He said further: 'The first Chairman of GAFCON Primates Council was the then Primate of All Nigeria, the Most Rev'd Dr. Peter Jasper Akinola. He chaired the first GAFCON in Jerusalem in 2008. He was succeeded by the Primate of Anglican Church of Kenya, the Most Rev'd Dr. Eliud Wabukala, who chaired the 2013 GAFCON at Nairobi, Kenya.
Archbishop Wabukala was succeeded by the current Primate of All Nigeria, the Most Rev'd Dr. Nicholas D. Okoh, who chaired the most recent GAFCON 3 in Jerusalem.
'The testimony of this GAFCON 3 is encouraging and I shall relate a few issues to keep you abreast with its content later in this writing. Through the succession of these three great leaders of GAFCON, the Most Rev'd Peter Jensen has served as the General Secretary of GAFCON. Indeed he has served well and excellently,' Dajur explained.
According to him, as GAFCON continued to wax stronger and grow larger, the Chairman of GAFCON Primates Council, the Most Rev'd Dr Nicholas D. Okoh, Primate of All Nigeria, announced to the enthusiastic congregation that gathered for GAFCON 3 that GAFCON's new leadership that would be succeeding him and his General Secretary were the Most Rev'd Foley Beach, the Primate of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and the Most Rev'd Dr. Benjamin Argak Kwashi, the former Archbishop of Jos Ecclesiastical Province and the current Bishop of Jos Diocese, Church of Nigeria, as Chairman of GAFCON Primates Council and General Secretary respectively.
