Obiano Rewards Policemen for Foiling Bank Robbery in Awka

Eight police officers who helped to foil a bank robbery at a branch of commercial bank in Awka on Monday have been rewarded with N2million by the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

The officers were also rewarded with 25kg of rice each by the wife of the governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano.

The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, had on Monday stated that a lone bank robber had intercepted a bank customer and seized his bag containing an unspecified amount of cash, but was rounded up by police operatives.

Haruna, while disclosing the news of the reward said, ‘Today being Tuesday, June 9, the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano, gave a cash reward of two million Naira to Police operatives who foiled a robbery attack at Regina Caeli Junction along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka on the June 9, 2020.

‘The gesture was to boost their morale and encourage others to emulate them,’ Haruna said.
Haruna added that similarly, the governor’s wife, Her Excellency Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, equally donated four bags of 50Kg rice to the police operatives.

‘The Police operatives comprised three Inspectors, four sergeants and one constable attached to the Department of Operations and MOPOL 29 PMF, Awka,’ Haruna stated.

Responding after presenting the cash to the officers who were given N250, 000 and 25Kg bag of rice each, the Commissioner of Police, CP John B. Abang, thanked Governor Willie Obiano and his wife for motivating the officers.

The CP was quoted as saying that the gesture would go a long way in boosting the morale of the officers and encourage them to redouble their efforts.

Abang further assured the governor and all citizens of Anambra State that the Command under his watch would continue to enhance safety and security in the state and deny criminal elements opportunities to perpetrate their dastardly acts in the state.
