Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has commended the people of the state for their role in the 2019 General Elections, describing it as peaceful, forward-looking and inspiring.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba, quoted Chief Obiano as commending the people for not only coming out in their hundreds of thousands in both the national and state elections, but also for being peaceful, orderly and law-abiding throughout the exercise.

‘The elections confirm Anambra’s reputation as Nigeria’s safest and most peaceful state, despite one or two incidents,’ declared the governor.

‘Our people inspire the world with their love of democracy and the rapid development which comes with it,’ Obiano stated.

He also praised the people for voting overwhelmingly for the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the House of Assembly Elections last week where the party won 26 out of the 30 seats, leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with only 6 seats.

‘Their support is as inspiring as it is challenging because it makes all of us in government to constantly seek to attain greater heights for the benefit of our people,’ noted the governor.

He said the overwhelming support for APGA was more or less a referendum on government’s performance, even though he, the governor, was not on the ballot at the assembly poll.
He described APGA as Nigeria’s foremost development-oriented party, noting that the people of the state had embraced the party’s philosophy and development strategy without reservations, making the state arguably the most competitive in Nigeria at the moment.

Obiano said that with both the executive and legislative arms of government on the same page, Anambrarians were guaranteed accelerated development and enhanced living standards.

Anambra has in the last few years been recognized as leading the country in various sectors, including education where her students won the Golden Prize in the 2018 World Technovision Competition in Silicon Valley, United States, beating their counterparts from various countries across the globe.

Anambra State has also been recognized for excellence in security, immunization campaign, social harmony, modern rice production and road development, among other areas.
