Obiano Appoints Akabuike New CMD of COOUTH

The Government of Anambra State has appointed Dr Josephat Akabuike, former Commissioner for Health in Anambra State, and current Chairman of Governing Council, Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi, as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, (COOUTH), Awka.

Governor Willie Obiano made the appointment while commiserating with the Nwankwo family of Ifite-Dunu, in Dunukofia Local Government Area, over the demise of their son, Dr. Basil Nwankwo.

The late Dr. Nwankwo was until his death, the CMD at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka.

In a statement, the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, said that Governor Obiano was saddened by the passing of Dr. Basil Nwankwo ‘who performed creditably well as CMD of COOUTH.’

He described Dr. Nwankwo as being in the frontline

of saving lives since the outbreak of COVID-19, together with his colleagues at Amaku, Anambra State Ministry of Health, and other partner agencies.

Professor Chukwulobelu said the state government was in touch with the late Dr. Nwankwo’s family and wished his soul eternal rest.

Professor Chukwulobelu used the opportunity to announce new appointments to fill the vacuum left by Dr Basil Nwankwo’s death.

Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), was appointed as the new Chairman of Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi. He will combine the two roles.
