The Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, has felicitated with Muslim faithful as they mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

In a release made available to Fides, Obi encouraged Muslims to continue to pray for the nation, which, he said, was passing through terrible times. Obi expressed the hope that with divine intervention, which could only come through prayers, and with sincerity, hard work and discipline on the part of the people, especially leaders, Nigeria would surmount its present challenges.

‘Our dear nation is heavily buffeted by insecurity, extreme poverty, high unemployment rate, corruption, mismanagement of resources and so forth. How can we sleep peacefully when we are the most terrorized country in Africa? Our human development index is going from bad to worse. The soaring food prices have made survival difficult for millions of Nigerians. We have continued to retrogress in many fronts as a nation, and are now only hanging on life support.

‘As I felicitate with our Muslim brethren on the celebrations of Eid-el-Kabir this year, I enjoin them to continue to pray for divine intervention in the nation,’ Obi said.

He also called on Muslims to continue to show love to everyone. He explained that true celebration lay in sharing what one had with others, spreading love and putting smiles on the faces of people; especially the less privileged and the downtrodden.

He noted that by so doing, the country would not only find fulfillment in life by also create a better world for others.
