…Says Obi, Not on Twitter
By Jude Atupulazi
The Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, never at any time claimed that he had no house in London.
His Special adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, made the clarification on Wednesday while reacting to false stories being spread online by Obi’s detractors that he lied about owning houses in London.
This was even as Obienyem alerted the public that his principal had no twitter account.
‘During several media programmes, Mr. Peter Obi said Onitsha was the only place he owned a personal house in Nigeria. In an attempt to discredit him, some people are posting his London houses as the much-awaited evidence that he lied,’ Obienyem said.
He noted that the issue of having a personal house only in Onitsha was a matter of choice, pointing out that if Obi’s lifestyle supported love for houses, Obi could afford to have houses in the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
‘As for his London houses, it might interest the public to note that he bought his first house in London in 1987. All the houses he owned in London were purchased before he became governor of Anambra State and were all duly declared,’ Obienyem explained.
He advised Nigerians and the international community to disregard ‘false stories being fabricated by detractors who are clutching at straws in their vain bid to demonize Mr. Obi, a proven performer and lover of the masses who is well known for his forthrightness and integrity.’
In a related development, Obienyem has informed Nigerians that Mr. Peter Obi was not on Twitter. Obienyem, who disclosed this last Monday, said he was reacting to a statement published in some newspapers ‘purportedly extracted from Obi’s supposed Twitter handle, which, for reasons only known to the impostor, used the term “lifeless” in relation to the present administration.’
Obienyem said it was brought to their notice about a certain Twitter account purportedly handled by former Governor of Anambra State and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
Mr. Obienyem advised the general public to disregard any such Twitter or Facebook account bearing the name of Mr. Peter Obi as he was not on any social media platform at the moment.
Obienyem disclosed that the fear of misrepresentation and mischief were among the reasons why Mr. Obi was yet to join any social media platform and assured that the public would be duly informed when Obi opened any social media account.
