A socio-cultural organization of eminent citizens from the ten communities in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State, Nzuko Odimma Anaocha, have concluded plans to establish a multi-purpose cooperative society, reports Jude Atupulazi.
The chairman of the group, Engr Simeon Okafor, disclosed this to Fides at their meeting held on Saturday, February 27 in Agulu.
Okafor, a former president general of Aguluzigbo Town Union, also disclosed that besides micro-finance banks, multi-purpose cooperative society also played a vital role in boosting the economy of communities, while equally serving as catalysts for youth empowerment.
Okafor reeled out the achievements of Nzuko Odimma Anaocha, formed on February 28, 2009, to include yearly empowerment of the less privileged for ten communities from 2010 to date; setting up of a ten-man committee on skill acquisition with Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha and Anaocha LGA; production of memorandum of understanding to fast track skill acquisition programmes in Anaocha; maiden production of compendium/directory of who is who in Anaocha in 2017; introduction of quiz competitions among secondary schools during the annual poverty alleviation programmes, and setting up of a committee to promote and deepen Igbo Language in the area.
Okafor commended the founder/first chairman of Nzuko Odimma Anaocha, Engr Tony Akpulu, who was a one-time Anaocha LGA chairman, for his foresight in ensuring the establishment of the association.
He also recognized the efforts of the immediate past chairman of the association, Prof Pita Ejiofor, former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiew University, Awka, for producing the compendium of who is who in Anaocha LGA.
Okafor disclosed that the new executive of the association would be inaugurated on 10th April, 2021, with the theme; ”Nzuko Odimma Anaocha – the Game Changer in Anambra State”.
