It was a gathering of who is who recently at the palatial home of Chief Engineer Ike Aguanunu during the burial of his late father, Chief Nwoye Augustine Maduegbunam Aguanunu (Ichie Ononenyi), aged 87.
In a homily during the funeral Mass, the Parish Priest of St. Francis Catholic Church, Umuoji, Reverend Father Udegboka, called on Christians to get close to God and always be prepared at all times, noting that death, which he described as inevitable, could knock at any time.
Rev Fr Udegboka enjoined all to seek the face of God and as well use their time to do that which would be pleasing to God and humanity, saying that the late patriarch lived a life worthy of emulation, even as he urged those he left behind to take solace in the fact that he died a fulfilled man.
Speaking during a condolence visit, the Igwe-Elect of Umuoji, Chief Engr. Kanayo Okoye, KSJI (Omenkannia) described the late Aguanunu as a peace loving man and a bridge builder, noting that he would be sorely missed, not just by Ekwulu Village, but by the entire Umuoji as a community.
Appreciating his guests, Engr. Ike Aguanunu asked God to bless and protect them all, and replenish their pockets in bountiful folds and lead them safely back to their various destinations.
Masquerade displays, condolence visits by in-laws, colleagues, friends, sympathizers and well-wishers, formed the highpoints of the burial.
