The newly appointed Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha LGA of Anambra State, Hon. Gerald Ikechukwu, has described The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a huge national asset that helps the youth develop interest in humanitarian service.
He made the description recently when staff and Corps Members of NYSC Anaocha Local Government paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Council Secretariat Neni.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ikechukwu , who welcomed the guests, paid glowing tribute to the Scheme and recalled that he learnt the essence of service to humanity during his days as a Corps member in Bokkos, Plateau State. In his words, ‘NYSC opened my eyes to rendering service to humanity . The experiences I had then as a Corps member changed my outlook to life,’.
He also pledged to use his position to prioritize the welfare and security of the Corps members serving in the Local Government Area.
Earlier, the Local Government Inspector (LGI), Mr Felix Nnamdi Obiekwe, who led the delegation said the purpose of the visit was to officially congratulate him on his appointment familiarize and acquaint him with his expected role to NYSC in the council.
Part of the proposal presented by the LGI to the TC Chairman is also the constitution of NYSC LGA committee which would handle the welfare and security issues pertaining to the Corps members.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of NYSC Publications to the TC Chairman.
Among the delegation are Mrs Rita Anajemba of NYSC Anaocha and Corps Liaison, Insurance Ojojo.
