It was celebration galore on 22nd March, 2019 at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe in affiliation with the University of Nigeria Nsukka when the institution organized her 22nd Matriculation ceremony of Bachelor’s of Education Degree students of University of Nigeria.
The event which was held at the college Arena commenced about 11.am and was witnessed by Professor Theresa Nkechi Obiekezie the honourable commissioner for tertiary Education, distinguished Academic and Administrators, lecturers, students, parents/ guardians, friends and well-wishers and as well featured with presentation and Admission of Matriculating students, Declaration of loyalty among other.
In an address delivered by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba at the matriculation ceremony, he stated that this year’s matriculation ceremony is historic for him and to the young students, just as he explained that the students has lifted to the rungs of academic excellence on the platform of the most iconic academic institution in Nigeria, noting that their dreams for a bright academic future have come to fruition.
He described matriculation ceremonies as a formal admission of candidates who have passed through the acceptable standard examination and have fulfilled the requisite requirements. He equally warned the students that the University has zero tolerance for cultism and other negative vices, advising the students to avoid bad company and remain focused.
Similarly, Dr. Ifeyinwa Osegbo who is the college provost in her address viewed matriculation ceremony as the first step into the world of the academia. She reminded the new students that they are teachers in-training who are being prepared for the enormous task of molding the character of the young generation. She however, advised the students not to engage in violent demonstrations that may lead to destruction of life and property and they should refrain from enlisting in any secret cult, as such are not tolerated by the college.
Commenting, the Honorable commissioner for tertiary Education Professor Theresa Nkechi Obiekezie urged the new students to remain law abiding and face their studies, added that they should shun cultism and make their parents/ guardians proud. High points of the event were cultural dance which presented of the students and entertainments.
