Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), recently held its 22nd Degree and 38th NCE matriculation Ceremony at the College’s arena.
The ceremony which was held at the institution’s premises had in attendance, over one thousand matriculants and academia from within and outside the school, as well as families and friends of the newly admitted students who came to celebrate with their own.
Addressing the matriculants, the Provost Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Dr. Ifeyinwa Osegbo, charged the students t to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the school, take their studies seriously, and eschew cultism, as according to her, the College had zero tolerance for such act.
Dr. Osegbo, while admonishing the students, thanked Governor Willie Obiano for the love and interest he had shown in the college, noting that the governor had always displayed quick, prompt response and attention to the needs of the College, even as she appreciated Gov. Obiano for the on-going construction of the College’s internal roads.
‘The management and indeed the entire college congratulate you on the recent victory registered at the polls in the last State Assembly elections. This is a show of the effort and determination of Ndi Anambra to ensure a hitch free success and smooth tenure of office for your administration. We are grateful for the resounding successes recorded so far by your administration and more in waiting,’ Osegbo concluded.
Speaking during the event, Governor Willie Obiano said his Administration would effect more remarkable improvement in the education sector of the state in the remaining years of his tenure.
The Governor, who spoke through the State Commissioner for Tertiary and Science Education, Professor Theresa Obiekezie, said his Government would continue to handle issues concerning education in the state with a high sense of responsibility, as according to him, education remained the best tool for reshaping society for good.
Gov. Obiano advised the new students to prioritize their studies over every other thing, assuring that the government would address the infrastructural and other challenges presently facing the institution to ensure the comfort of the students.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Professor Benjamin Ozumba, who was represented by the Dean Faculty of Education of the institution, Professor Dominic Ngwoke, encouraged the students to avoid bad company and be conscious of their behaviour and dreams as future leaders, assuring them that the institution would continue to strictly adhere to the core values which he said, were built around integrity, accountability, and transparency.
Some of the matriculants that spoke to Fides, including Mr. Basil Okoloyaralu, from Economics Department, and his Chemistry counterpart, Miss Ogochukwu Nwadigwe, thanked God for their admission into the school and promised not to disappoint their families.
