In fulfilment of the promise he made during his working visit to Tertiary Institutions across the Federation the immediate past national president of National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS) Nationwide Comrade Echegwo Godwin Chibunna, recently awarded scholarship to five outstanding Indigenous Anambra State Students.
Presenting the cheque of one hundred thousand Naira to the beneficiaries, Hon. Echegwo said that the scholarship were strictly for students who were outstanding in their academic performance.
He announced that the money would cover for their school fees for a period of one academic session, noting that he would continue to empower more indigent students who excelled in their academic pursuits.
Presenting his farewell address cum handover note during the inauguration cum swearing in ceremony of the newly elected national executive council of NUASS,Comrade Echegwo said despite the challenges faced they were able to scale through, noting that they had succeeded in given a glorious facelift to the Union which, he said, were at its lowest ebb.
Enumerating the achievements recorded during his tenure, Echegwo said they were able to create NUASS National website, embarked on Secondary school tour across the 21LGAs with education support materials to encourage our them, noting that they worked so hard to include the Union in Annual state budget which, he said, was 70% work done.
‘We paid a National working visit to the Tertiary Institution across the six geopolitical zones, We worked in collaboration with the State Government during the October 1, 2017 threat by the Arewa Youths tagged” Operation Igbo must leave the North to ensure safe return of Anambra state students in the North, we embarked on first Anambra state student Peace March tagged “No Election violence during 2017 Gubernatorial poll.
‘We engaged INEC effectively that made some NUASS members to serve as Ad-hoc staffs and Election observers. In partnership with Intra Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Anambra State Chapter to organize a Governorship debate during 2017 Gubernatorial Poll.
‘We sensitized and garnered massive support for the reelection of Gov Willie M. Obiano across the six campus in the state and beyond through a Students Coalition Forum which comprises of NUASS, JCC NANS Anambra axis and NANS zone B. We ensured an official National Plate Number for the Union.
‘We paid a National Condolence visit to H.E. Chief Willie M. Obiano during his Mother’s burial at Aguleri. Induction of National Patrons.
‘We organized First ever National Cultural Fiesta and gave out over 365 awards to Government functionaries and appointees, distinguished Anambra Personalities from all walks of life, Past NUASS Leaders and BOT members, some Students Leaders across the Tertiary Institutions.
‘Due to a good working relationship we had with the State Government that inspired them to grant us Permanent waiver to use Dr Alex Ekwueme square for any of the Union’s bigger future events. Through our commitment we were able to secure a Philanthropic donation of 40seater bus donated by Prof Godwin Maduka (Lion of Africa)
‘We opened a channel of communication between the Union and some media houses in the state especially with serial invitation to feature in Good Morning ABS program.
‘We supported one of our foremost Student Leaders in the state with 1000copies of Educational support materials to encourage his political aspiration during last General Election in the person Hon Comr Obidigwe Benjamin Chinedu.
The climax of this inauguration ceremony was the issuance of a hundred thousand naira cheque to cover a one year academic tuition of five indigenous students in Nnamdi Azikiwe University who have performed academically well in their various disciplines,
‘We couldn’t have achieve these and so many others if not the great support we enjoyed by the State Government, the Board of Trustees and the Senate of the Union.
‘We remain eternally grateful to all and sundry for giving us this great opportunity to contribute our quota to the development of the Union and state at large and also wish to use this medium to appeal to those whom I might have offended in the course of my service to the Union to please find a place in their heart to forgive and forget my excesses taking into cognizance that there’s no perfect human in the world.
Comrade Echegwo thanked Comr Ezeilo Franklin; the BOT Vice Chairman of the association whom described as his political father and mentor for believing in him, noting that he (Ezeilo) supported his quest to lead this Union and contributed immensely to the success of his administration.
