Nigerian Book Foundation Gets New BoT

The Nigerian Book Foundation has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees, BoT, with Professor Chinyere Okunna emerging as co-president. She is to work along with long standing president, Prof Chuwkwuemeka Ike.

The board of trustee members who emerged at the foundation’s meeting, Wednesday, include, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Iweka 111, Prof Chineyere Okunna, Mr Sule Momodu, Dr Obidike Maduako, Mr Wilson Moneme and His Royal Majesty, Prof Chukwuemeka Ike.
The Nigerian Book Foundation, founded in 1993, was established with the aim of finding a lasting solution to the national book crisis.

According to its pioneer president, Prof Ike, the foundation is irrevocably committed to indigenous book development anchored in the conviction that books built the nation.

He said the foundation aimed to, among other things, promote the development of an indigenous book industry; encourage and promote authorship of books for use in institutions of learning, as well as for general use for pleasure and education; encourage reading habit among Nigerians; encourage and promote the publication of sundry books; encourage and support the establishment in institutions of learning; cooperate with government agencies and others engaged in the production of paper and other materials required for book development and to make research grants to bodies concerned with book development.

For her part, Prof Okunna said the president felt there was need to infuse new blood into the foundation in order to ginger its activities and further its aims and objectives. She assured that the new BoT members would live up to expectations.
