The Old Aguata Union (OAU), Awka Branch has honoured the member representing Aguata I Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Cater Nnamdi Umeh with a Distinguished Honorary Award.
Conferring the award on Hon Umeh at a general meeting of the Union held at Awka, Anambra State on June 30, 2019, the chairman, OAU, Awka Branch, Barr George Chukwunwike Nwikpo, said it was a thing of joy that one of them, who is the Secretary General of the Union, contested, won the election, and is currently representing the good people of Aguata I Constituency in the state house of assembly.
He described the victory and subsequent inauguration as an honour to Hon Umeh and OAU, Awka Branch.
On his expectations from the legislator, Barr Nwikpo, who spoke exclusively to Fides said, 'Hon Cater Umeh has been carrying out his duties efficiently and effectively for the five years he has been the Secretary General of OAU, Awka Branch. I am confident that he will replicate the good works in the house of assembly, and that he will represent us and Aguata I Constituency very well.
The chairman, who was re-elected for another 3-year alongside the secretary general in 2017, prayed God to bless the legislator with the needed grace for committed and quality representation, so that the union would continuously be proud of him.
In his response, Hon Umeh, appreciated the union for the honour, which he said came to him as a surprise. Umeh, who said he would continue to carry out his duties as the Secretary General of the Union, said he felt elated over the award, and described his victory at the polls as God's doing. He assured them quality and service-oriented representation.
Speaking to Fides, the house member said, who assured his readiness for quality representation said, 'I promise OAU, Awka Branch and Aguata I Constituency good representation. I will make sure that I will be of good conduct, and that I will not be found wanting in the rules of business of the House.
Umeh, who is a lecturer at Tansian University, Umunya said he owed God and the experiences he from OAU, Awka Branch, which according to him, is a noble union of renowned personalities in society'.
On his major plans for Aguata I Constituency, Hon Umeh said he would do his best in carrying out the three duties of a legislator which were making laws, over sighting the executive and representation.
He continued, 'I have a blue print of what I intend to achieve for Aguata I Constituency. I will work and have meetings with stakeholders of my constituency, allow people to bring in their ideas so as to key in the needs of the people into the budgeting. I have packages for the widows, the women, the youths and even adult education programme for the adults to enable them acquire basic education, and many more packages. All we pray is for God to bring in the resources for effective delivery'.
