The Communications Department of the Archdiocese of Lagos recently paid a two-day visit to Fides Communications, Awka on Tuesday 4 - Wednesday 5 June, to understudy Fides Communications' modus operandi and to discuss what and how Fides operates as part of their efforts to re-strategize communications in the archdiocese.
The team of four, whose visit was in actualisation of the desire of the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, to see that the Department of Social Communications in the Archdiocese grew in leaps and bounds, was led by Sir Anthony Chiejina (Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Dangote Groups), who is Chairman of the Committee on Communications set up by the Archbishop to re-evaluate communications apostolate in Lagos archdiocese, and Rev. Fr Anthony Godonu (Communications Director of the Archdiocese of Lagos). Others are Mr. Patrick Adaba and Sir Philip Obioha.
Fides Communications has in recent times experienced rapid changes and improvement in its working system and these have attracted the attention of so many in the field of communications in the country.
Addressing the group during the interactive session at the Fidesplex, the Fides Communications Director, Fr. Martin Anusi, who welcomed the guests in a special way, gave them a brief history of Fides, explaining its units, services, online presence and Google experiences. He said that Fides was outstanding for its uniqueness, grassroot orientation, pastoral, ecumenical and independent outlook.
He further said that Fides was much more than a newspaper, noting that it was conceived as multi-media project with multiple units that cut across printing, publishing, audio-visual, research-documentation, photo/video, pastoral outreach, internet/e-evangelization, youth development, farms/fishery, professional engagements, among others.
Speaking on Google services, Uchechukwu Enem, a Fides staff and Google Expert, talked about Google My Business services, noting that it was pertinent for businesses to gain online presence and achieve visibility.
The interactive session with the Lagos team was very insightful and fruitful. They asked questions on various areas of Fides work and apostolate. Questions were taken from the Lagos team by Fides Director, Rev. Fr. Anusi, and Deputy Directors 2 and 3, Rev. Frs Cyril Ezeani and Pio-Anthony Okafor respectively.
The Editor-in-Chief of Fides Newspapers, Hon. Jude Atupulazi, in reply to some of the questions posed to him, said that Fides was known for its proximity, balance and value in news reports and that Fides Newspaper had been able to conquer its environment through quality information passed to its readers.
The Lagos team, asked questions on various areas of Fides operations bothering on production, finance, administration, staff and relationship with civil authorities, among others. Sir Chiejina, with Fr Godonu, appreciated the Director of Fides, Fr. Anusi, and his team, for the hospitality and hoped to take what they had seen in Fides to their Lagos contexts.
The Fides Director took the team on a tour around Fides Communications' compound, showing them various units and departments. Later the team was taken on a visit to some landmark areas in the Diocese of Awka with a visit to Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu, St Patrick's Cathedral, Awka, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Awka.
Various Heads of units and departments of Fides were fully represented at the meeting.
