Quality Education, Pillar of Development- Prof Ogbuagu

The former provost of Federal College of Education (Technical), (FCE(T), Umunze, Anambra State, Professor Josephat Ogbuagu, mni, has described quality education as the pillar of development.

Professor Ogbuagu, mni, who spoke as the chairman of the occasion for the inauguration of 12th provost for Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE, Owerri, Imo State on January 14, 2019, noted that developed countries of the world thrive on quality education.

Ogbuagu, who is a professor with Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Anambra State said, “For us in Teacher education, the talk has always been quality education, sustainable education and functional education. When you look at the world in general, you will agree with me that developed countries of the world thrive on quality education. Quality education is a pillar of development, a key to industrialisation and societal growth in any nation. To achieve quality education is a task before all of us. It demands selfless contribution, mutual cooperation and team work'.

He continued, 'Nigeria needs our collective efforts to move forward, live her full potential, become a better society, achieve sustainable development with the rest of the world and become a home the future generation will be proud of. We will continue to pray that the labours of our heroes past will never be in vain'.

The former provost of FCE (T), Umunze, expressed his delight over what he described as “smooth transition” for AIFCE. He commended the staff and students for their support to the former Provost, Prof Blessing Ijioma, and urged them to extend same support to the new provost, Dr Dan Anyanwu.

He observed that the inauguaral ceremony for the 12th provost of the College, marked the end of a glorious era and the inauguration of transformation in the institution.

Speaking at the event, the College Council led by the Chairman, Arc. Alex-Hart A, said the process that produced Dr. Anyanwu had been widely accepted as fair and transparent.

He expressed his conviction that the new provost would bring the college community together as one family in its giant collective step towards the repositioning of the institution.

In his remarks, the 12th provost of AIFCE, Dr. Anyanwu, assured that with the cooperation of the staff and the students, his administration would take the college to enviable heights through academic excellence and staff development.

'I will build on the legacies of my predecessors in AIFCE and with your cooperation as the staff and students of this institution, we will work together and take our college to an enviable height', Anyanwu said.

In her valedictory speech, the outgone provost, Prof Ijioma thanked God for what she described as a successful tenure which he (God) granted her with in the College. She appreciated the staff and students of the College for their prayers and support throughout the period she served as the provost.

Ijioma, who highlighted her achievements in the College, prayed God to see her successor through.
